BRINA

The establishment of the ensemble Brina – named after its lead singer Brina Vogelnik – was brought about in 2003 with desire for a fresh and bolder musical approach. Brina’s seven-member ensemble draws its musical motifs from traditional music, which is brought back to life and rearranged, while lately its repertoire has
increasingly consisted of original pieces.
 
Both of Brina’s albums – Mlado leto (DruGod, 2004) and Pasja legenda (DruGod, 2006) – have made a strong mark on the world music map. For the impressive period of three months, Pasja legenda held its place among top 10 at the World Music Charts Europe. In November 2006, the album rose as high as the 3rd place. Mlado leto and Pasja legenda have received remarkable reviews both in Slovenian and international magazines, among others the fRoots, Songlines and World Music Magazine.
Brina is one of the two performers from Slovenia who have appeared at Womex – World Music Expo (Seville, 2006).
While appearing on Slovenian and Croatian stages regularly over the years including Druga godba, Cankarjev dom and Ethnoambient Salona and Zagreb, 2007 is the year of Brina’s international breakthrough with a spring tour in Northern Spain (El Ferrol, Gijon, Santander) following by North American Festival Tour in September with remarkable appearances at World Music Festival in Chicago, Small World in Toronto and Lotus in Bloomington, Indiana.
