BRINA – SLEČENA KOŽA
10.10.2012
Released by DRUGOD, a Druga Godba Festival Production
Ljubljana, September 2012
After a gap of seven years, Brina returns with her third album, Slečena koža (Skin Stripped Off), which picks up where Pasja legenda, left off. That earlier album is one of the few released on a Slovenian label to have hit the top of the specialist European charts – thanks to the late, great Charlie Gillett, the album's hit, Poljanska balada, was heard at all points north and south of the Equator. This earned the band
tours of Spain, which included appearances at Womex in Seville and the Expo in Zaragoza, Mexico, Canada and the US. The years passed and added fresh impetus to the band's sound, created in part by producer Chris Eckman, member of The Walkabouts and Dirt Music and producer of albums by Tamikrest and Lobi Traore. Slečena koža's ten songs included a number of self-penned tracks.
Brina's voice is stunning when it tackles old folk songs and packed with emotion when it turns to tales of the everyday. Her band moves easily between virtuosity and minimalism, but is never less than inspired.

In the past they've blended various European influences along with their core Americana style, but on this they come across like the Seattle equivalent of Calexico, with a song-cycle about the desert, viewed as lure and desolation, dreamscape and death."
The Independent, UK
Tickets:
www.eventim.si
Presales: 18 eur, 14,40 eur students-retirees. On the day of the concert: 20 eur.
